Another change that wasn't obvious at first is that the Open Table option is gone when a table is right clicked. I'm sure that was probably ambiguous so MS had to take it out.
The Open Table command has now been replaced with Edit Top 200 Rows.
Well what if there is a row at 201 that I want to edit. Is there no easy way to right click and just open all the rows.
i like this feature. i find myself carelessly hitting open table on enourmous tables in 2005 all the time and wasting a ton of cycles and time. if im editing a larger table its a lot easier to write a query anyway than to visually scan a ton of rows.

Right Click->Eidt Top 200 Rows
When the table comes up click the 'Show SQL Pane'
Remove the 'Top 200' part of the query then execute.
Not too bad a work around.
It amazes me that we need a "work around" when going from 2005 to 2008. I think it is stupid to remove Open Table. The improvement should have been to leave Open Table but also add the Top 200 Rows.
ReplyDeleteThen the right click menu will grow up and will be not user friendly. Therefore I think that will be greate to remove Select top 1000 rows option. If we have edit, so why we need select option?

As with other options, configurable settings would have been the best solution. Provide the opportunity for a user to specify if they want all rows returned or a subset, which would also be defined by a user.

ReplyDeleteIt's replaced by "Edit Top 200 Rows". You can change that command in the Tools > Options > SQL Server Object Explorer > Commands. Changed the value in options to 0 and you can open the entire table.
ReplyDeleteThey did this because people were accidentally opening huge tables with the old Open Table command.
